The CD track consists of:

  • A drummer count-in ("1-2-3-4")
  • "Gimme some of that funky stuff" (meaningless fluff)
  • A drum roll
  • Instruments coming in sequentially (bass, piano, clav, guitar), then going out in the opposite order--this is to give you the correct ordering of the instruments
  • A one-bar drum fill
  • A sequence of binary-coded decimal digits separated by drum fills—each digit is encoded by the presence or absence of the different instruments:
    • Guitar = 8
    • Clav = 4
    • Piano = 2
    • Bass = 1
    • Drums are always present (for timing)
  • "Break it down!"

The resulting series of digits are used to fill in the blanks on the CD case.

The tracks work out as follows:

G=8 X             X                   X           X
C=4         X   X   X X X       X           X   X     X X
P=2   X   X         X X             X   X X     X     X         X X
B=1 X     X X       X X X   X X X           X   X       X   X X X X

    9 2 _ 3 5 _ 4 8 7 7 5 _ 1 1 5 _ 2 8 2 2 5 _ 7 8 _ 6 5 _ 1 1 3 3

which makes the answer:

VIA MILEPOST 9.2
PARK 35.48775 115.28225 (near dead truck)
HEAD 78 (true) 65 (mag)
WALK 1133 ft
FIND 1306

This clue amused those listening to Game Control taking calls, as we sometimes had to imitate the instruments while confirming that players had the instrument mapping correct. Like many other clues, this one brought out differences between teams--some found it hard to pick out the different instruments at all, while others were too perceptive and were confused by hearing too much detail.
